Hazel supports at least 70 species of insects plus moth caterpillars, dormice, deer and squirrels. It is fine in most free draining soils and windy/exposed sites and is shade tolerant – view a number of hedging for exposed sites.
- Prune side shoots half way along their length in August followed by shortening the shoots to 3-4 buds in the late winter when they have shed their pollen
